Starting a Mentoring Program (PDF File)
Frequently Asked Questions for New Programs
was developed by MMS Consultants Jerry and Judy, and Dustianne. Although written
specifically for youth mentoring programs, most of it also pertains to ex-prisoner,
workplace, and other types of mentoring efforts. This document can also be found at the
National Mentoring Partnership Website.
Sample Manual TOC (MS Word File)
The Mentor Training Manual
Table of Contents (Sample), shows the core subject matter covered in an initial mentor
training. Note that after developing a comprehensive mentor training manual, all other
program documents are created by using it as a guide. When you sign on with MMS, 80% of
your training manual is completed (because we work with an existing template), and we can
help you to quickly make decisions on the 20% specific to your program.
Best
Practices (PDF File)
The Recommended Best Practices
were originally created approximately 15 years ago by the National Mentoring
Partnership, and they have become industry standards. The version you see here was adopted
by the California Governor's Mentoring Partnership. Quality Mentoring Programs understand
that if they leave out even one of these standards, the program suffers. Originally
developed for youth mentoring, most of these practices are also essential in designing
workplace mentoring programs.
Build-a-Mentor
(MS Word File)
Also called "Build an Ideal
Mentor," this is the best interactive exercise for training mentors (or mentees) that
we know of. MMS consultants have used it countless times, and it always works!
