ex-prisoner mentoring programs, and over the past 12 years, staff has worked with hundreds
of mentoring efforts.
All MMS consultants are considered pioneers in the field of youth mentoring, and they have
created program operating systems, trainings and materials for a variety of mentee
populations.
Executive Vice President Judy Strother Taylor, a highly respected school-based mentoring
program expert, is currently the Project Director for U.S. Department of Education-funded
mentoring programs. Judy is also providing training to Children of Prisoners Mentoring
Programs across the U.S. Judys publication, Training New Mentees: A Manual for
Training New Mentees, which she wrote for the National Mentoring Center, has been one of
the most highly used mentee training documents over the past few years.
MMS Vice President Dustianne North works with all types of youth mentoring efforts, and
she is one of the leading professionals in the development of foster youth mentoring
programs. Ms. North has recently produced a DVD training called Discussing Difficult
Issues, which can be used by mentoring and other types of youth-serving
organizations. Dustianne is currently in the process of completing her Ph.D. at UCLA, but
she also finds time to assist MMS with various projects.
MMS President Jerry Sherk not only works with youth mentoring programs, but he has been an
innovator in developing best practices for ex-prisoner mentoring efforts. Within the past
year, Jerry has provided technical assistance to approximately 20 reentry mentoring
initiatives. He has recently authored or co-authored a number of manuals in this area
for Public/Private Ventures, of Philadelphia. Jerry is currently writing a group mentoring
manual to be used by Public/Private Ventures-funded programs.
Judy, Dustianne, and Jerry are all accomplished authors who have written a number of
workbooks and publications for organizations such as the U.S. Department of Education, the
National Mentoring Center, the Center for Applied Research Solutions, and Public/Private
Ventures.
